News
Happy New Year from D.O.G.S. of Vernon
D.O.G.S. wish to take this time to wish everyone a wonderful 2010. Thanks to your continued support the Dog Park of Vernon will be planning a grand opening in 2010.
At this time we have a signed lease, taken bids from companies for fencing and excavation and are currently awaiting a needed variance from the County. Once that is approved we can start the building as soon as Mother Nature gives us a break.
Remember, that the park is to be maintained through donations and fundraisers. Fundraisers for 2010 include a Dine out with DOGS at various restaurants, a microchipping and nail clipping clinic in late winter/early spring. Another event in the works is a Tricky Tray. Our Garage Sale will be in May and watch for our 4th annual Dog Wash and Nail Clipping in July. Keep checking our website and emails for updated information.
Currently we are running a “Build a Fence Campaign”. Purchase a section of fence and dedicate it to your canine friend. Download information on how you can purchase a section of fence.
We meet every second Thursday of the month at the Vernon Senior Center at 7:30 pm. If you would like to volunteer some time or donate time please join us for our meetings.

Call for volunteers
We are getting closer than ever to our goal of an off-leash dog park in Vernon. There are many ways to volunteer. We will have many opening in our group for your time which includes fundraising, education, and experience. If time is at an premium we are looking for expertise in the following areas fencing, gravel, lawn maintenance. Other ways to help is to watch for and participate in our fund raisers.
To youth groups keep in mind we are a non-profits organization and will have many projects that will fill your service project needs. For example helping with installation of fencing, lawn upkeep, and beautification of the park (flowers & trees).

2009 Annual Report
Here is the letter from our President. To see the full annual report click here.
Letter from the President:
Dear Members,
2009 was a very productive year for the DOGS of Vernon. Great strides were accomplished and we took necessary steps toward the first off-leash Dog Park of Vernon Twp. The year 2009 flew by with all we were doing and accomplishing. It’s with thanks to all of our volunteers, residents and companies of Vernon Twp that we are now working to finalize all aspects of opening the off leash dog park in Vernon.
We held fund raisers to enable this park endeavor to go forward. We raised money for the administrative costs, insurance and for the building of the park. Our entire budget comes from donations, dues and fund raisers. Fundraisers are best when they cost the least amount thus making the profit more. Many of our fundraisers’ cost are donated by members so profits are higher.
Our active membership consists of 30+ members. Our e-mail database of volunteers is an additional twenty three names. We have a data base of interested parties in Vernon of 350+ e-mail addresses. We also run a Yahoo Group with 100+ members. An area Eagle Scout participant is assisting us in clearing out the area of the park for a pet memorial area and planting flowers etc.
Our greatest accomplishment in 2009 would be that DOGS of Vernon received a lease with the townships that enables us to move forward. With the signing of the lease we have moved forward with area businesses to begin the process of construction of the park for 2010.We have demonstrated that not only are we interested in building something for our town but working with other groups, organizations and local business to achieve this goal. We want to thank Vernon Animal Welfare League, the Vernon Twp Animal Control, Vernon Fire Department, Vernon Township Council and many other businesses and groups for helping in our fundraising and events.
Sincerely,
Barbara Green
